Let's be honest: you want to make money. And quickly. No shame — this is an absolutely normal desire. The question is which programming language to choose so that you don't spend a year learning and then find that there are few vacancies or they pay peanuts.

We analyzed the latest data on the salaries of programmers in Russia at the beginning of 2026 and compared them with the time of training. Spoiler: the results will surprise you.

Payback formula: salary / training time

Payback is simple math. How much you earn in the first year of work, divided by the number of months you spend on training. It sounds simple, but the numbers speak for themselves.

🥇 First place: JavaScript — 217,000 ₽ for 6-8 months

JavaScript is a real jackpot for beginners. Why?

  1. Low entry threshold. You can start writing code literally on the first day — a browser is enough

  2. Versatility. One language for frontend and backend (Node.js)

  3. 3,737 open vacancies only on hh.ru right now

  4. Rapid growth. From junior to middle — 1-1.5 years, and this is already 220,000+ ₽

A real example: in 6 months of training, you master HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React. You get a job as a junior frontend developer for 100-120 thousand. A year later, you are already claiming 200+.

Payback of the first year: ~1,200,000 ₽ / 6 months = 200,000 ₽ per month of training

🥈 Second place: Python — 212,000 ₽ for 6-9 months

Python is deservedly considered the easiest language to start with. Its syntax is close to human language, and there are a lot of applications:

  • Web development (Django, Flask)

  • Data analysis and machine learning

  • Automation and scripts

  • Backend development

Python's special feature is growth ceiling. Senior Python developers in Data Science and ML earn 300,000+ ₽. That is, the language grows with you.

Payback of the first year: ~₽1,100,000 / 6 months = 183,000 ₽ per month of training

🥉 Third place (unexpected): 1C — 196,000-252,000 ₽ for 6 months

Yes, yes, don't be surprised! 1C is a Russian programming language that many undeservedly ignore. They shouldn't.

Why 1C is profitable:

  1. A purely Russian story. It only works in Russia, but here it is the standard

  2. Huge demand. Every business uses 1C for accounting

  3. Low competition. Many programmers don't even consider 1C

  4. Fast learning. You can reach a normal level in 6 months

  5. Stable operation. 1C will not disappear — it is an infrastructure

Minus one: you can't build a global career, this is a local story. But if you want to start earning money quickly in Russia, this is a great option.

Payback of the first year: ~₽1,150,000 / 6 months = ₽192,000 per month of training

Languages with high salaries but long training

Go is a language for high-load systems. Salaries are cosmic, but there is a nuance: you need first become a good programmer in another language, and then switch to Go.

There are practically no junior vacancies for Go. Everyone wants middle+ with experience. So Go is the second or third language in a career, not the first.

Rust — 333,000 ₽ (for experienced)

Rust pays great, but it's a language for those who already understand programming at a deep level. For a beginner, it's too difficult to get started.

What NOT to choose if you want to pay off quickly

PHP — slow start

PHP was once the king of the web, but now the market has shrunk significantly. Salaries are average, and competition for junior positions is high. Unless you are specifically targeting WordPress development.

C++ — long learning

C++ is a powerful language for system programming and games, but learning it will take at least 1.5-2 years. It is not suitable for quick payback.
